Mount Barney – South Ridge

A longer but less technical route to the top of Mount Barney

Located in Mount Barney National Park in the Scenic Rim region. Approx 1hr 45min from Brisbane. 6km return, difficult/experienced grade, allow 8-10 hours.


This is for experienced hikers only, there are multiple sections with high exposure and in sections you will need to scramble. Download Mount Barney Park map here. Also,  you can look to go up South East Ridge and down South however keeping in mind this is more advanced.

Getting There:

1hr 45min south of Brisbane with off road parking however no 4WD is required.

What to take:

Water and plenty of food. As you will be going for up to 8-10hours, the weather can change so take wet weather and safety gear such as emergency blanket and head torch as a precaution. Comfortable footwear with grip, gloves and 3L of water. 

Hot tip:

You will need to scramble up boulders so take gloves and wear a long sleeve top.
